Our Erasmus+ Project
Loreto Community School has been successfully awarded the status of an accredited organisation by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme. Enhancing our school’s learning of foreign languages and promoting the uptake of French and Spanish at senior level is the basis of our project.
This accreditation means our school has access to funding until 2026/27 to support the mobility of students and teachers in partnership with a Belgium school and to Spain with a Spanish school.
The grant aims to provide support to selected TY students who will participate in the programme and travel to other countries for education purposes. This grant will help to finance this travel, education programme and accommodation. This will provide our students with a wonderful opportunity to discover and develop new skills whilst working in partnership with their European peers. These projects also allow our students to discover new cultures, experience different educational systems, develop team working skills and create friendships whilst visiting other European countries.
This funding will also allow teachers of MFL to avail of continued professional development to improve the quality of teaching languages in our school. In addition, teachers will be provided the opportunity to carry out job-shadowing in our partner schools.
Our partner schools:
- IES La Creueta, Onil, Alicante
- College Saint-Louis, Liege, Belgium.
TYs Travel to Spain
In October 2023, 12 TY students, accompanied by two teachers, completed a group mobility to Spain. Irish students were warmly welcomed into the homes of the families of Onil for the week and immersed into Spanish family life. The week involved attending classes in the school with their host partners. Other activities during the week included a day trip to Alicante, a boat trip to Tabarca Island, hill walk taking in the natural landscape, visit to the local industry of doll making, group work and group presentations. Belgium and Danish students were also visiting the same week and there was a great mix of cultures and diversities. Our students integrated excellently and strong connections were established over the week.
Our next trip will be to our partner school in Belgium in December which we are very much looking forward to.
